The Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign offers many essential benefits during and after treatment. Your Brandon dentist has listed a few here to give you an idea.

A Removable System

Unlike traditional braces, you can take out Invisalign aligners to eat your meals and clean your teeth. This means no dietary restrictions.

A Comfortable Aligner

Invisalign aligners are made of clear plastic. This plastic is smooth, which means it will never scratch your gums or irritate soft tissues.

A Healthier Smile

Invisalign aligns teeth, promoting improved oral health. Brushing and flossing sessions will also be more productive when teeth are aligned.

What Is Invisalign? What Does the Treatment Entail?

Invisalign is a popular cosmetic treatment for individuals with an overbite, underbite, crossbite, or crowded, spaced, or misaligned teeth. The Invisalign treatment uses transparent, mouthpiece-like aligners to gradually move a patient's teeth into alignment.

The treatment process begins with a consultation with an Invisalign-trained orthodontist or dentist, during which the patient's mouth is examined and x-rayed, and a digital 3D model is created. From this model, a dentist can assess the misalignment and necessary adjustments and develop a treatment plan tailored to the patient's specific needs.

At this point, sets of clear plastic aligners are custom-made for the patient. Each set of aligners differs slightly from the one preceding and following it. In combination, these gradually move the teeth toward their desired final position. Each set of clear aligners is worn for 20-22 hours per day (removed only for eating, brushing, and flossing) for up to about two weeks, with the patient switching to the next set afterward.

The full duration of Invisalign treatment varies based on each patient's circumstances, namely age, overall oral health, the severity of misalignment, and adherence to wearing the aligners in accordance with the treatment plan. Generally, however, Invisalign takes between twelve and eighteen months to complete, with more extreme cases requiring as little as six months or as long as two years.

Can Anyone Get Invisalign?

A woman putting in her Invisalign trayWhile Invisalign is a very effective option for many, it's unfortunately not suitable for everyone. Candidates for Invisalign should be:

  • At least in their late teens
  • Suffering from only mild to moderate orthodontic issues
  • Committed and disciplined in adhering to their treatment plan, wearing their aligners as directed, attending regular check-ups, and maintaining good oral hygiene

Please note that only a qualified dentist or orthodontist can definitively determine whether someone is a good candidate for Invisalign.

Why We Recommend Invisalign

Invisalign's popularity, first and foremost, can be attributed to the fact that it is not only very effective at delivering to patients a beautiful, aligned smile but doing so with discretion, comfort, and flexibility.

First, Invisalign's aligners are virtually invisible, making them less noticeable and far more aesthetically pleasing than traditional metal braces and even clear braces.

Also, Invisalign's aligners are custom-made to perfectly fit the contours of the wearer's mouth and minimize discomfort and irritation to the gums and cheeks. Additionally, as they're easily removable for eating, brushing, and cleaning, not only are the aligners themselves easy to clean and maintain, but they facilitate easier cleaning of the teeth and gums while placing no restrictions on food choices.

Finally, though it may take a couple of days to acclimate to each new set of Invisalign aligners, this discomfort is both temporary and a far cry from the more severe and often persistent discomfort associated with traditional braces. All this at a lower cost and with fewer visits to the orthodontist!
